Stage of Pregnancy - First Trimester Pregnancy

Stage of Pregnancy

There are three stages of pregnancy which are the first, second and third trimesters. Because each pregnancy is unique so growth may differ as we describe each of these three stages.

First Trimester Pregnancy

The first trimester is the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. Throughout the entire pregnancy, the first trimester stage, probably, is the stage where the most rapid development occurs. In this short 12 weeks, the baby will grow from a few cells to developing eyes, ears, and toes.

In this stage, the pregnant woman’s body is going to go through hormonal changes that will affect both her mind and her body. She will also experience uncomfortable symptoms such as morning sickness and fatigue. However, discomforts will cease after the first trimester.

Baby Development During the First Trimester:
  • rapid growth from a few cells to an embryo
  • starting to develop eyes, nose, ears, teeth buds, bones, vital organs, fingers and toes
  • formation of genitals and may be recognizable by the end of the first trimester

First Trimester Pregnancy Symptoms:

  • breasts will increase in size and become sensitive as the milk glands begins to multiply in number
  • nipples and the areola (the area around the nipples) get darker and broader
  • may begin to experience morning sickness
  • urinate more frequently
  • may be constipated and have heartburn
  • may have headaches
  • may experience mood swing
  • may start to show by the end of the first trimester
