Stage of Pregnancy - Second Trimester Pregnancy

Stage of Pregnancy

There are three stages of pregnancy which are the first, second and third trimesters. Because each pregnancy is unique so growth may differ as we describe each of these three stages.

Second Trimester Pregnancy

The Second Trimester is the period between 13 to 26 weeks of pregnancy. During the second trimester, pregnancy symptoms such as morning sickness began to cease.

Also, the mother's body will change more noticeably. Attention should be given to maintaining a healthy diet because she will also be experiencing weight gain on average of 3 to 4 pounds per month.

Baby Development During the Second Trimester:
  • the baby’s bones begin to harden
  • the shape of the ears become more recognizable
  • development of fine hair ( lanugos) all over the body
  • development of sleeping pattern
  • the baby starts to move inside the uterus

Second Trimester Pregnancy Symptom:

  • freckles and moles may darken
  • chloasma ( a dark brown skin discoloration) may developed and fade after birth
  • experiencing weight gain
  • the stomach stretches and may get dry (use lotion to lessen the chance of stretch marks)
  • experiencing on going heartburn, constipation, and indigestion
  • as the breasts continues to grow, wear well fitting supportive bra
  • start to retain water so legs and feet may swell
  • by the end of the second trimester the uterus will be about the size of a football
