Teaching Babies Language and Reading
A baby starts the learning process as soon as it is born. The baby teaching process is initiated automatically and does not need the help of parents in order to be carried out. At this stage, every single thing is a new experience for the baby, and he/she will incorporate all of it into the learning process. At first, the baby simply listens to what all the people present around say and watches their actions, but with time, the baby starts copying them.
The act of conscious baby teaching comes later on. It is up to the parents to start the formal teaching process. It may be started when the baby is just three months old, or it can be initiated later on. However, research shows that it is best to start reading early as it helps the baby in developing a lifelong interest toward reading and learning.
Babies benefit a lot from repetition during learning. Repeating words, phrases, and sentences are comforting to a baby. It brings in a routine into the baby’s life and offers a feeling of contentment and security that is important to the child’s well-being. What’s more, it has been proven that babies who are content learn easily and with eagerness.
Baby learning schedules differ from a few days to weeks depending on the nature of individual babies. In general, it has been noticed that girls start learning faster than boys, but in the long run, it does not make much of a difference.
As has been stated, all babies learn from the process of examples. In order to help your baby learn to speak and read, you need to talk to, cuddle, and sing with your baby on a daily basis. Conduct a one sided conversation in an affectionate manner and tell your baby about your day, about anything that comes across your mind, and make other small talk. Make frequent eye contact with your baby so that he/she knows who you are talking to. Pause in between sentences as if you are waiting for a response. This teaches the baby to be a good conversationalist.

While talking to your baby, don’t limit your speech thinking what the little one will understand or not. Babies, especially those aged 6 months or more, have the capability to take in just about everything. So, speak in a normal manner and who knows, one day the kid may blabber out a few of those words that he/she has heard from you!
Reading is another very important point in baby teaching. Read out loud to your baby on a regular basis. Reading increases the baby’s vocabulary and also increases a baby’s knowledge base. Since babies at this stage are in the continuous process of learning, reading out loud increases the baby’s curiosity about everyday life and encourages him/her to learn more.
Baby teaching should be a spontaneous process and should not be forced upon the child. In order to make the teaching process effective, the entire practice has to be relaxed and allowed to progress naturally. One important point to remember is that each baby has his/her own learning rate, and if your child still uses sign language while your neighbor’s child is already lisping out words, there is no need to be worried. Worry and tension will only inhibit the child and slow down the learning process.
